Architectural Description: 404 Commercial St. is a 3-story, 3-bay, Greek Revival-style dwelling converted to commercial use; gable-front roof is sheathed in asphalt shingles, exterior brick chimney on left side facade; exterior is clad in clapboard siding with wood trim; building sits on a brick foundation; fenestration includes 6/6 DHS with wood surrounds, window have denticulated lintels; primary entrance is accessed by a wood panel door with wood storm and wood door surround with denticulated entablature and sidelights; entrance is sheltered by a full-width 2-story porch with projecting gable supported by Doric columns with denticulated capitals on wood deck; wood steps to front porch; left side facade contains spiral staircase, commercial vents, rear additions.
Historical Narrative: As per Tom Boland (1994): This site is formerly 369 Commercial Street. The structure at 404 Commercial Street is first shown on the 1858 atlas of Provincetown and was owned by J. Dyer. By 1880, the ownership had changed to J.J. Cook. In 1901, J.J. Cook is noted as a Captain. Currently "Chester Restaurant" (2003).
