Architectural Description: 442 Commercial St. is a 2-1/2-story, 4-bay, Italianate-style multi-family dwelling; gable-front roof is sheathed in asphalt shingles, full cornice return with paired brackets, interior chimney near roof ridge; exterior is clad in clapboard siding with wood corner boards and trim, side ell is clad in wood shingles; building sits on a parged brick foundation; fenestration includes 2/1 replacement vinyl DHS in core, flat window hoods with brackets, side ell has 2/1 replacement vinyl DHS, 8/8 and 1/1 replacement DHS; primary entrance has a historic door, brick stoop, flat hood with modillioned cornice with paired brackets supported by end brackets with pendants; secondary entries have flat door hoods with ancones; modillioned cornice; side ell is set back from primary facade; ell has a sidehall entry with shallow flat hood supported by end brackets sheltering a historic door with storm door; rear facade has 2-story ell with 1/1 DHS, two entries on rear, porch with deck at 2nd story.
Historical Narrative: As per Tom Boland (1994): First seen on the 1858 atlas, #442 Commercial was owned by S. Cook. In 1880, ownership was L. Turner whose heir, Isaiah Turner, maker of boots and shoes, owned it until at least 1907.
