Architectural Description: 40 Commercial St is a 2-story; 5-bay center hall cottage; a shed dormer creates the second story. The wood shingle-clad side gable roof features the large shed dormer on the front facade and a central brick ridge chimney. A shed dormer is also located on the rear roof slope. A brick stoop and sidewalk lead to the primary central entry. The door is a 4-panel door with 4 lights at top with a multi-light wood storm; wood door surround includes battered pilasters with fluted capitals, ancones and entablature. Fenestration is primarily 6/6 wood DHS with storms and wood surrounds; 9/6 DHS in gable end; planters are located below 1st story windows. A secondary entry with simple pilasters and entablature is located on the western facade. The rear facade has a shed roof addition with open porch and roof deck above. A north-facing garage has been attached to the rear, with 2nd story above. This features 6/6 DHS windows and an exterior stair to a 2nd story entry on rear facade (end) of rear ell. A 1st-story entrance is located on the south side. |
