Architectural Description: 619 Commercial St. is a 2-1/2-story, 3-bay, gable-front and ell dwelling; cross-gable roof is sheathed in asphalt shingles; partial cornice returns; interior brick chimney on side roof slope; exterior is clad in wood shingles with wood corner boards and trim; fenestration includes 2/1 wood DHS, paired 4-pane wood casements, single-pane wood awning windows, single-pane wood casement; gable wall dormers supported by brackets; main entrance is accessed by a wood pane-and-panel door flanked by sidelights; open decks on north and south sides; the south facade has an overhanging second story with pilasters that is supported by square posts.
Historical Narrative: As per Mary Avellar (1976): "This was the summer home of Maurice Sterne, internationally known painter whose prominence in the art world was at its height in the ‘30s ad ‘20s. He was trained in Europe and is well known among painters, although not popular among the general public. He was one of the distinguished figures who lived ad worked here in the early part of the 20th century along with Charles Hawthorne, Richard Miller, Ambrose Webster and others. The house is architecturally exact as it was when built, and therefore important and an intact replica of that period."
