Architectural Description: 561 Commercial St. is a 2-story, 7-bay dwelling; cross-gable roof is sheathed in wood shingles partial cornice returns; shed dormer on front roof slope; interior brick chimney; exterior is clad in clapboard siding with wood trim; building sits on a brick foundation; fenestration includes 6/6 wood DHS, 2/2 wood DHS, 1-story square bay on north facade with 2/2 wood DHS windows, operable shutters; primary entrance is accessed by a wood panel door with a fanlight transom; 1-story section on south facade with rooftop deck; yard is enclosed by a wood picket fence.
Historical Narrative: As per Mary Avellar (1976): "Owned by V. Roseberry in 1907. Robert Ball was an artists and illustrator who came here at the time of the great literary and artistic influx represented by Charles W. Hawthorne in painting and the "Provincetown Players" in literature and drama. His illustrations, for instance, as those of the deluxe edition of 'Bleak House' by Dickens published by the Heritage Press, New York, 1942. He was also producing director for the 'Wharf Players' in the 1926 season at 83 Commercial St (see West End album, p. 8)"
