Historic District Survey information for 350A Commercial St
Architectural Description: 350A Commercial St. is a 2-story, 5-bay Colonial Revival-style commercial lodging building; side-gable roof is sheathed in asphalt shingles, wood cornice, gable and shed dormers, concrete chimney on rear of main block; exterior is clad in clapboard siding with wood corner boards and trim; building sits on a brick foundation; fenestration includes 2/2 wood DHS with storms; primary entrance is located in center bay and has a wood door surround with entablature, pilasters and stained glass transom; secondary entrance with hipped door hood and solid brackets; exterior wood staircase to 2nd-story entry; rear ell contains 6/6 DHS and 4/4 replacement DHS and has an interior brick ridge chimney.
Historical Narrative: As per Tom Boland (1994): Shown on the 1836 map, this house is noted as being owned by E. Ryder in 1858. In 1880, the ownership had changed to I. Gifford who, at that time, owned the Pilgrim House, one of Provincetown's earliest hotels (now gone - destroyed by arson). Mrs. E. Oliver is listed as the owner as of 1907. Today the site serves as a guest house. Currently "The Captain's House" (2003).
