Architectural Description: Obscured from view; 288C Commercial St. is a 1-1/2-story, 4-bay, Colonial Revival-style 3/4 cottage; side-gable roof is sheathed in asphalt shingles, central brick chimney; exterior is clad in wood shingles with wood corner boards and trim; building sits on a brick foundation; fenestration includes 6/6 wood DHS, louvered shutters; primary entrance is accessed by a wood pane-and-panel door and aluminum storm door with a wood door surround with pilasters.

Historical Narrative: As per Tom Boland (1994): The house at 288C Commercial Street is shown on the map of 1836 and the atlas of 1858. In 1880, the house was owned by Mrs. Paine. The 1907 atlas indicates that ownership had changed to Mrs. B. McKenna. One of several in the block, including #'s 284B, 288C, 290B, 294A, and 296A Commercial, which were the first structures on this portion of the street. Each was well set back from the shore and would likely have been surrounded by salt drying apparatus.
