Norris Church Mailer Collection
Overview
Artist, author, actress, fashion model and mother of the century are among the many hats worn by Norris Church Mailer (1949-2010) during her lifetime. She was deeply involved in the community most notably thru her work with the Provincetown Repertory Theater serving as artistic director from 2002-2004, and as an integral part in raising the funds for the theater on Bradford Street. In addition, with her husband of over 30 years, writer Norman Mailer they worked hard to raise money for many of the town’s non-profit organizations. They also hosted among others, George Plimpton and Gore Vidal to achieve those goals and entertained countless guests from all walks of life; always including their many local friends among them. Her work as a visual artist, was witnessed by nine one woman shows and her two novels and memoir, A Ticket to the Circus, were met with rave reviews and profiled in countless local and national venues a sampling is included in this archive. This collection is drawn from materials assembled by the Mailer family and from the collection of J. Michael and Donna Pedro Lennon, Mailer’s biographer and his wife, both family friends and former Provincetown residents. The Mailer family is grateful to Stephen Borkowski and the archive for their help in honoring Norris’ time and presence in Provincetown. [More...]
