John Atwood Jr & Co Packing Book, 1863 - 1868
This journal was kept by John W. Atwood of the mackerel (and occasionally other fish, including bay scallops and swordfish) caught by vessels of the John Atwood Jr & Co. fleet between August 10, 1863 and October 28, 1868. The Journal identifies the vessels and crew (by initials or personal symbols), the day the ship came in, and the quantity of mackerel by size in barrels and pounds, and the price per size. The Journal shows significant catches in the beginning that fell off after mid-1860's. Transcription by Provincetown History Project Volunteer Julia L. Perry. | |
