Architectural Description: 157 Commercial St. is a 1-story, 4-bay, Federal-style 3/4 cottage; gable-front roof is clad in wood shingles, massive interior brick chimney located at roof ridge; exterior is clad in wood shingles; building sits on a brick foundation; fenestration includes 6/6 wood DHS, 2/2 DHS; primary entrance is accessed by a wood paneled door with wood fanlight, wood door surround contains wood pilasters and small fluted brackets supporting entablature top. Historic 2-story, 3-bay addition built ca.1820 extends from rear facade; roof is sheathed in wood shingles with interior brick end chimney; exterior is clad in wood shingles; addition sits on brick foundation; fenestration includes 6/6 wood DHS, 2/2 wood DHS; 1-story shed-roof additions.

Historical Narrative: Plaque on building: "Snug Harbor - Built around 1750 when Provincetown used its beach as a highway. This is one of the few old houses left which still is facing the shore road. Its three chimney complex encloses a Snug Harbor."; As per Tom Boland (1994): Shown in the 1858 map, #157 Commercial Street was owned by J. Cook in 1880 and Esther E. Nickerson in 1907. This structure is important in that, like all early houses, it still faces the harbor. Currently called "Martin House" (2003).
