Historical Narrative: As per Tom Boland (1994): "Although it likely dates to the turn of the nineteenth century, 500 Commercial Street makes its first appearance on the map of 1836 with the owner of 1858 listed as J. Pinckney. In 1880, it is noted as being owned by Pinckney and Doggett (probably meaning Daggett). In 1907, Elizabeth Pinckney ran a summer boarding house which is appropriate given its size. Lewis B. Pinckney was a mariner who lived there at that time. This house had strong ties with the waterfront activity occurring across the street throughout the 19th century. For a great deal of the later half of the century, it was owned in conjunction with the beachfront property."
