Architectural Description: 516 Commercial St. is a 1-story, 4-bay dwelling; side-gable roof is sheathed in asphalt shingles; interior brick chimney at ridge; exterior is clad in clapboard siding with wood trim; fenestration includes 2/2 DHS windows with storms, right side facade has 6/6 and 2/2 DHS; primary entrance is accessed by a pane-and-panel door with storm door; secondary entrance on rear facade is accessed by a panel door; rear ell has 2/2 and 2/1 replacement wood windows; occupant reports he has circular cellars and cistern (2003).
Historical Narrative: As per Tom Boland (1994): 516 Commercial Street is shown on the 1858 map as being owned by a G. Little. In 1880, the owner was D. King followed by Manuel Davis, fisherman, in 1901. Mr. Davis or his father, was noted as a barber in 1890. Shortly thereafter, it was home to the painter C. Arnold Slade and later in this century, home to Gerritt Hondius, a Dutch painter. (CONFLICT WITH HISTORY FOR NO. 520)
