Historical Narrative: As per Tom Boland (1994): The house at 180 Bradford Street was constructed under the ownership of Caleb Cook, a whaling captain around 1860. The small studio building is where the Captain produced watch lubrication oils made from whale oil. The house remained in his ownership until the turn of the century when it was purchased by E. Ambrose Webster as a summer residence. Later, Mr. Webster, a modernist painter, used the small ancillary building as his studio. Mr. Webster founded a painting school in Provincetown in the early part of this century. After Mr. Webster's residence, William Boogar, a sculptor, took residence. Mr. Boogar's studio was located in the area of the existing structures at 463-465 Commercial Street.
