Historic District Survey information for 116 Bradford St
Architectural Description: This is a 2 1/2-story, 3-bay dwelling with a u-shaped side addition. The front gable has a full return, and corner pilasters. A brick chimney rises from the roof ridge. The windows are 2/1 DHS with storms. The panel door has a small hood supported by brackets, and is flanked by 3-light sidelights. In the addition, which is flush with the front facade of the main block, windows are paired 6/6 DHS. The addition is clad in clapboard, while the main building section is stuccoed clapboard. Secondary facades are clad in wood shingles. The 2-story rear addition has large concrete block chimney at the roof ridge. There is a shed dormer in the west roof slope. The west facade contains single and paired 6/6 DHS and 6/1 wood DHS. The east facade contains 2/1 wood DHS with storms.
Historical Narrative: As per Tom Boland (1994): "All of the buildings in the area (116, 118, 119, 120, 123, and 127 Bradford Street) were constructed within a period of seventy years. The earliest structures are 118 and 119 Bradford...It is clear that the only structures existing on the 1836 map were 119 and 118. The 1858 atlas indicates that 116 and 127 were not yet built. This area is significant as an historical streetscape in that these buildings survive as an early 19th century residential "village" within the town. Largely unaltered and retaining their original settings, the streetscape serves as an excellent example of how many of Provincetown's streets once looked."
