Historic District Survey information for 6 Tremont St

Architectural Description: 6 Tremont is a 1-story, 5-bay full cottage with central entry. A brick chimney is centrally located at the roof ridge, and there is a skylight on the front roof slope. The main entry has a 2-pane over panel door with storm; the surround includes pilasters and frieze with dentils across the top. Windows are 6/6 DHS with louvered shutters. Window and door trim is incorporated in cornice below the eaves. One 1/1 DHS replacement window is located on the west facade, as well as 6/6 and 8/8 DHS and 1 single-light casement window. An open porch is located on the rear facade.

Historical Narrative: As per Tom Boland (1994): Consistent in style with other very early houses such as 242 Bradford Street and 72 Commercial Street this house is noted on the 1836 map and 1858 atlas. By 1880, it was owned by a person named Newcomb and a sea captain, Captain Thomas C. Maner, resided there. The only other listing for it is an M. Day in 1907. The age of the house implies that it is one of the earliest houses on the street.
