Architectural Description: 158 Commercial St. is a 2-story, 5-bay, Federal-style dwelling; hipped roof is sheathed in asphalt shingles, brick interior chimney centered on roof ridge; exterior is clad in wood shingles, with patterned shingles between 1st and 2nd stories and under 2nd story windows; building sits on a parged foundation; fenestration includes 2/2 replacement vinyl DHS with wood surrounds and window boxes; primary entrance located in center bay is accessed by a panel door with wood surround, 4-pane side lights, storm door, and shallow shed hood; 1-story shed-roof addition extends from right side facade; an addition extends from rear facade; yard is enclosed by a wrought iron fence with brick piers.
Historical Narrative: As per Tom Boland (1994): This address is formerly 155 Commercial Street. 158 Commercial Street is clearly shown on the 1836 map. In 1858, its owner is listed as C. Nickerson who, along with his son, C. Nickerson, ran a dry goods business directly across the street at what is now 151 Commercial Street. In 1880, the house was still owned by Mrs. C. Nickerson and in 1901, the owner was Samuel Fisher.
