Architectural Description: Address in field: 439 Commercial Street; 437-439 Commercial St. is a 2-1/2-story, 3-bay, Italianate-style commercial building; gable-front roof is sheathed in asphalt shingles, partial cornice returns, shed dormer; exterior is clad in clapboard siding with wood corner boards and trim, shed dormer is clad in clapboard siding and wood shingles; building sits on a brick foundation; fenestration includes 2/1 wood DHS, 9-pane and 6-pane wood fixed windows, modern multi-pane casements; primary entrance is accessed by a modern 15-pane door.
Historical Narrative: As per Tom Boland (1994): The first reference to a building at this site is the 1880 atlas which indicates that a Mrs. A. Tarvers owned the property. By 1907, ownership had changed to Mr. Joseph Avelar. Currently "The Williams-Scott Gallery" (2003).
