Architectural Description: 335 Commercial St. is a 2-1/2-story, 3-bay Italianate-style commercial building; gable-front roof is sheathed in asphalt shingles and has partial cornice returns; exterior is clad in wood shingles with wood corner boards and trim; building sits on a brick foundation; fenestration includes wood 2/2 DHS with wood surrounds, plate glass display windows, paired 9-pane wood sliding windows in storefront; primary entrance is located in recessed center bay and has a single-pane transom; older storefront cornice with paired scroll-sawn brackets; exterior staircase to 2nd-story entrance on side facade; addition on rear facade.

Historical Narrative: As per Tom Boland (1994): Nos. 331, 333, and 335 Commercial Street. #331 was first listed as a tin shop in 1858. In 1880, the owner was N. Homes who continued the use as a tin shop. The 1901 and 1907 Atlases list the owners as H.M. Holmes and Nathaniel P. Holmes respectively. Originally known as 312 Commercial Street, #335 Commercial is not shown on the 1858 Atlas. In 1880, its cited as owned by K.W. Freeman and was a general store and billiard hall. Later, under the owner A. Freeman, it became a house wares store and then an ice cream parlor. In 1943 it became the New Deal Tavern which was located next door at #333 Commercial for nine years. In 1956, its name was changed to the Fo'c'sal which remained until 1984. Currently Fat Jacks' restaurant. #333 Commercial is noted as the L. Young store in 1858 continued under the Young ownership through 1880. In 1889, it's noted as a millinery shop and by 1907, it too came under the ownership of A. Freeman. Currently "Squealing Pig" (2003).
