Historical Narrative: As per Tom Boland (1994): Typical of other side hall Greek Revivals built at the time, 62 Commercial is noted in its location on the 1858 map and was owned by Mrs. M. Ghen. In 1880, the property was still in the Ghen family and was owned by John Ghen who owned the house and wharf across the street and a few doors down at 59 Commercial Street. Mr. Ghen relocated to Commercial Street from Long Point where he operated a store. By 1907, the property came under the ownership of W.W. Cook. The rear ell may have been moved from an earlier position as a freestanding structure.
According to a neighbor, the building was fully reconstructed 2000 (per conversation with neighbor in March 2004). |
