Architectural Description: 428 Commercial St. is a 1-story, 5-bay, astylistic cottage; side-gable roof is sheathed in asphalt shingles, interior brick end chimneys with corbelled caps, skylights on rear roof slope; exterior is clad in clapboard siding on the front facade and wood shingles on the secondary facades, with wood corner boards and trim; building sits on a brick foundation; fenestration includes replacement 6/6 DHS windows and 12/12 replacement DHS in the side gable end, simple wood trim around windows; central entry with replacement plank door, door surround has pilasters, dentil-like trim, and solid wood sunburst transom panel; left side facade is a 1-story shed-roof addition on poured concrete foundation with recessed entry, interior deck, and 12/12 DHS replacement windows; addition wraps around rear facade with paired door entry flanked by single doors and 6-light awnings windows; rear ell has a shed dormer with single-light awning window, 1/1 DHS, entry door flanked by 6/1 DHS, single-light windows in gable end; yard is enclosed by a wood picket fence.

Historical Narrative: As per Tom Boland (1994): Shown on the 1836 map, it is not until 1858 that the name of an owner, Mrs. Brown, can be associated. The property is listed as owned by J. Atwood in 1880 and, probably an heir, B. Atwood in 1907.
