8 Tremont St
Historic District Survey information for 8 Tremont St | |
Architectural Description: 8 Tremont Street is a former 1-story, 4-bay, 3/4 cottage that has undergone additions and alterations. The building core is the 1-story, 4-bay, 3/4 cottage with side-gable roof and central brick chimney. The door is a replacement with storm installed. Windows are 2/2 DHS wood with louvered shutters. All fenestration has simple wood trim. The foundation, likely previously brick, has been changed to rusticated concrete block. A porch with wood-shingle-clad half wall is located at the front, at the door and extending west. A 1-story addition was added to the rear, with concrete block foundation, and a 2nd story was added to this. Its shed roof extends above the primary roof, encompassing most of the chimney. This creates a dormer effect, as the overhang has paired single-light windows. The east end has a 3/3 DHS wheel window, and the southeast corner is curved. A 2-story addition is located on the west end. It has 6/6 and 2/2 DHS windows, as well as some single-light awning windows. There are several window types at the rear, including 6/6, 2/2 and 1/1 DHS, as well as single-light casements. An exterior wood stair accesses a door at the 2nd story of the western addition. |
