Journal of a Whaling Voyage (Encounters)

Journal of a Whaling Voyage (Encounters)
A list of encounters of the schooner E.H. Hatfield with other ships taken from the Journal of the Schooner E.H. Hatfield of Provincetown, Mass., as kept by Charles F. Keith Commander/Ship's Master. The Journal covers two voyages of the Schooner Hatfield from Provincetown - the first from November 1865 until October 1866, and the second from January 16, 1867 until sometime in the fall of 1868. The Hatfield encountered numerous other ships from the New England area while following the standard whaling route (New England to the Azores to Africa to the Caribbean and back to New England). Entries includes ship name, home port, ship's master, and frequently how long they had been out and how many barrels of oil they had collected. The listing includes the Journal entry that references each ship. Prepared by History Project Volunteer Julia L. Perry
